The End of Globalization?

5 May
Brunnsgatan 2, Stockholm Chamber of Commerce
Internationell handel
Breakfast seminar with Barack Obama’s Deputy Secretary of Commerce.

Globalization has been one of the last decades’ megaforces of change. Goods, services and investment today flow across national borders with impressive speed and intensity. Increased mobility of people has made societies more connected than ever before.

Despite the positive force of globalization for growth and development worldwide, it is today facing more opposition. The critique of open markets and free trade – two cornerstones of globalization – became apparent during the recent U.S. presidential election.

Are we witnessing the end of globalization? Are we facing a future in which provincialism and nationalism will dominate? What is President Trump’s views on globalization and what will his administration’s trade policy agenda look like? What are the consequences for Sweden and its capital region?

Welcome to a breakfast seminar with former Deputy Secretary of Commerce, Bruce Andrews. He served in this capacity from 2014 to 2017. Prior to this, Andrews served as Chief of Staff to the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce, a post which he began in October 2011.

Maria Rankka, CEO of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, will moderate the seminar. Comments and analysis will be provided by the Chamber’s Chief Economist, Dr. Andreas Hatzigeorgiou.

More speakers to come.
